This Is 'How Strong' Labor Unions Are In New York
Samuel Stebbins at 247wallst.com has authored a report on Labor Unions in the State of New York. New York is one of only two States where more than one in five Workers are Members of a Union. The 22% share of Workers in the State who are Unionized is the largest of any State in the Northeast - and second largest of any state Nationwide. However, Unions in New York have slightly weakened in the last decade. The share of Union Members in New York’s Workforce fell by 2.2 percentage points since 2010 and 2.7 percentage points from the decade’s peak in 2015. Of the nearly 1.7 million Union Workers in the State, about 874,000 hold jobs in the Public Sector. New York is one of only three States where more than two-thirds of Government Employees belong to Unions.
