Philadelphia Ballet Wardrobe Shop Workers Vote To Join IATSE Local 799

(PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA) – The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) has announced Workers employed at the Philadelphia Ballet Wardrobe Shop have voted unanimously to join IATSE Local 799.

The shop, which is responsible for building, fitting, and repairing costumes used in Philadelphia Ballet productions, will now benefit from Union representation, better wages and improved working conditions.

The Organizing Campaign began on January 30th (2023) and quickly gained momentum among the Workers.

Despite the employer’s insistence on a vote instead of recognizing Card Check, the Workers remained determined in their quest for representation.

The final vote was 4-0 in favor of joining IATSE Local 799.

“The people working in this shop are all Local 799 Members, but they wanted to be represented for better wages and benefits,” Local 799 President Beverly Nolan said. “They know we represent the Opera Shop and have for some time and they want to try to mirror that contract.”

Negotiations on the Workers’ first contract for the Wardrobe Shop Workers will start soon, with a focus on securing the better wages and benefits that IATSE has won for its Members in other contracts.

By joining IATSE, the Workers aim now is to establish a stronger, more secure future for themselves and their families.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States, Its Territories and Canada represents more than 168,000 Technicians, Artisans and Craftspersons in the Entertainment Industry, including live events, motion picture and television production, broadcast and trade shows in the U.S. and Canada.
