Michigan’s Genesee Intermediate School District ‘Adds Paid Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Program To Bolster Trades’
The Flint (Michigan) Journal reports the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) has announced a new Career Technical Education Program in partnership with multiple Trade Unions for high school students to begin working in a Skilled Trade Pre-Apprenticeship Program before graduation. Partnering with the Michigan Laborers’ Training Institute and Laborers’ International Union of North America, GISD students accepted into the program can make $15 per hour and receive full benefits while completing their training. Michigan recently opened the opportunity for students under 18 to begin working in Skilled Trades under Pre-Apprenticeship Programs. All hours completed in the GISD Program count for future Union Trade Apprenticeships.
