“It’s A Slap In The Face” - The New York State Nurses Association Tells The New York Daily News That ‘Higher Pay For Temp Nurses Is Costing New York City Tens Of Millions Of Dollars In Additional Costs, Each Year’
Michael Gartland at The New York Daily News reports that according to sources in the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) Union, high turnover and the hiring of so-called Traveling Nurses at Jacobi Medical Center is likely costing New York City tens of millions of dollars a year in additional costs. NYSNA represents Staff at the hospital. “A conservative estimate is that the city is spending ($18.5 million to $24.2 million) per year on Traveler/Agency Nurses just for Jacobi Hospital,” NYSNA Spokeswoman Kristi Barnes told The Daily News. Kristle Simms-Murphy, who’s worked as a Nurse Practitioner at Jacobi for 16 years, says: “It’s a slap in the face. We train these Agency Nurses and they come on and make more than what we earn.”
