West Virginia Chemical Workers Join ICWUC ‘For A Better Life’
(NEW MARTINSVILLE, WEST VIRGINIA) - Workers employed at Elementis Specialties, Incorporated in New Martinsville, West Virginia have joined International Chemical Workers Union (ICWU)/United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 566C for the better wages and benefits that come with a Union contract.
Elementis Specialties is a Global Chemical Company and the 25 Workers are employed as Chemical Operators, Lab Technicians, Material Handlers and Maintenance Technicians.
The Workers, who voted unanimously to Unionize, were concerned about job security and wanted the protection and security that a Union contract provides, the ICWU/UFCW said.
“Wow! A unanimous vote! A big thank you to (ICWU) President (Lance) Heasley for helping the Employees at Elementis to vote unanimously to join ICWUC Local 566,” Elementis Specialties Worker Nate Frum said.
“I also want to thank the Members of Local 566 for welcoming us with open arms. They’ve showed us respect and professionalism and made me feel like a Brother from the day we met. I’m so proud of the Elementis Members for standing together in solidarity. Our first step is complete. Good things are to follow,” Frum said.
ICWUC President Lance Heasley said: “The ICWUC is proud of the solidarity the Workers of Elementis displayed with their unanimous election win. We are looking forward to getting to the bargaining table and working to secure a contract for these Workers.”
