“We Must Ensure They, Their Parents, Staff And Community Are And Remain Safe” - The Buffalo Teachers Federation Calls For A District Delineation, Distribution, Posting And Enforcement Of COVID Protocols

(BUFFALO, NEW YORK) – The Buffalo Teachers Federation (BTF) is calling for a district delineation, distribution, posting and enforcement of COVID protocols in Buffalo’s Public Schools to “ensure that students, their parents, School Staff and the Buffalo Community are and remain safe.”
As such, the BTF is calling for: Delineation and enforcement of District protocols; Students who test positive for COVID not admitted to school or returned to class. Currently, violations are occurring throughout the District, the BTF alleges; Conditions set that require a student to be taught virtually and the class to be quarantined or school closed; Immediate action taken to correct shortages of necessary COVID supplies; An end to “pool testing” where only some volunteers are tested - and, if there are insufficient numbers, no testing is done; and Free testing also for all Teachers at their school/site to ensure quick action for positive COVID tests; among other issues.
“Teachers want to be with their students in school, in person. However, we must ensure that they, their parents, the Staff and community are and remain safe. We look forward to continuing to work with the District to ensure this,” BTF President Phil Rumore said.
