(ROCHESTER, NEW YORK) - One week following the expiration of their three-year contract, 1199 Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and SEIU Local 200United have reached a tentative, two-year contract agreement covering 1,800 Service Workers employed at Strong Memorial Hospital and at the University of Rochester.
Union Members are currently reviewing before they vote on Friday (November 5th).
Details of the agreement are not being made public until the SEIU-represented Employees are given a chance to review and vote, Union Officials said.
The agreement makes Front Line Caregivers feel appreciated.
“Walking into work, I was always worried that I would catch COVID, but I went to work every single day during the pandemic,” says Sue Heffer, a Patient Care Technician at Strong Memorial Hospital. “It was very unnerving. We weren’t sure what would happen to us if we got sick. My work ethic didn’t change because of COVID, I still wanted to provide the best care to my patients. I feel that the agreement shows management the commitment workers have provided delivering quality patient care for the last eighteen months.”
“It was a long process, but I think this is the best contract we have seen,” says Marlon Melton, a Cook at the University of Rochester Campus. “This is a heartfelt agreement and I think our Members will be very happy.”
