NowThis ‘Goes Union’ With The Writers Guild Of America, East

(NEW YORK CITY) - NowThis - the #1 Video News Brand in Social Media, and the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) have released a joint statement after their newsroom formed a Union, which NowThis has voluntarily recognized:

“NowThis and the Writers Guild of America, East both share the goal of furthering the growth and success of NowThis Employees.  We understand and value the role collective bargaining can play in newsrooms.  We are pleased to have come together to affirm our commitment to reaching a fair and equitable agreement in the best interest of (the company’s) Employees.  We look forward to working together in good faith to put in place a Collective Bargaining Agreement as soon as possible.”

On its Twitter Page, the newly-Unionized NowThis Members posted the following:

We, the Employees of the NowThis Editorial Staff, are proud to work for a progressive media outlet and are committed to building a workplace rooted in diversity, transparency, inclusivity, and equity - values we proudly espouse in our coverage.

We want to ensure that our company’s bright future is sustainable and values all of our essential contributions.

Every Employee deserves to be paid fairly, have access to a career path and have a seat at the table for critical decision-making about their progression.

The leadership at @NowThisNews and @GroupNinemedia was made aware that 85% of eligible Staff had signed Union Cards several weeks ago and have since recognized our Unit.

We look forward to an amicable bargaining process that creates a stronger, smarter and more just newsroom for all.
