New Union Offers Subscription-Based Benefits To Central Pennsylvania Restaurant Workers
(HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA) - A newly-founded, Harrisburg-based Labor Union is offering Central Pennsylvania Restaurant Workers, who are independent of a Union, a weekly subscription service that includes among its benefits limited health and retirement services.
A detailed rundown of the benefits can be found at: https://www.717restaurantworkersunited.org/become-a-member.
717 Restaurant Workers United was co-founded in July by Samuel Weymouth and Tiffany Ramsey, who both worked in the restaurant business.
Weyworth, the Labor Organization's Executive Director of Outreach, says the Union represents Workers employed at Cork & Fork and Cork & Fork Osteria, but plans on representing "any Restaurant Employees wo are sick of being mistreated and taken for granted."
In mid-July, the Union kicked off its campaign with a #takeouttakeover effort that encouraged people to call into both Cork & Fork locations and order takeout.
But when ordering food, the Union encouraged customers to let management know that they stand with Cork & Fork Employees - and then spread the word on Social Media with the hashtag #IstandwithCork&Forkemployees.
Prior to the Coronavirus Pandemic, nearly 21,000 people in Lancaster County were employed in the accommodations and Food Service Field, according to the Pennsylvania State Department of Labor & Industry.
