After More Than Two Years Of Fighting For Their First Contract & Weathering A Barrage Of Anti-Union Blasts, Wendt Corporation Workers ‘Finally Realize Victory’ - Negotiate Tentative Two-Year Agreement For Unionized Workforce

WNYLaborToday.com Editor’s Note: This is a breaking Labor News Story.  More details will be reported once they are made available to Your On-Line Labor Newspaper.

(CHEEKTOWAGA, NEW YORK) - Despite an aggressive company-funded Anti-Union Campaign, Workers employed at the Suburban Buffalo Wendt Corporation - a Cheektowaga-based auto shredding manufacturer, voted by a 70% margin to form a Union in June 2017 in order to affiliate with Ironworkers Local 576.  Now, more than two years later, their fight to attain a first contract has come to a victorious end, with word that a tentative, two-year agreement has been bargaining with management.

WNYLaborToday.com has learned the agreement is a two-year deal with “significant” wage gains.  A news conference was scheduled to be held sometime during the day on Friday (July 19th) to announce details of the contract, which will positively impact the Workers who stuck together through an arduous process through the cold of Winter and heat of Summer.

“We are ‘thrilled that this struggle is ending,’” Western New York AFL-CIO Area Labor Federation (WNYALF) President Richard Lipsitz told WNYLaborToday.com.  “This is ‘what Organized Labor is all about’ – ‘this is what we do, having a positive impact on the standard of living for Working People and we need to make the general public more aware of that.’  The WNYALF and area Labor ‘have been proud supporters of this effort.’”

“This is a tremendous victory,” another Labor Leader - who had knowledge of the agreement, but who did not want to be identified, told Your On-Line Labor Newspaper.  “The Workers stuck together and won together.”
