(MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO/CANADA) - Workers at the Courtyard by Marriott Toronto Mississauga West hotel are the newest Members of United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Canada Local 1006A after recently voting to join the Union.

The 50 Hospitality Members work in a variety of positions at the hotel, including front desk, bistro, kitchen, porters, housekeeping, night auditors and maintenance.

They joined the UFCW to achieve fair treatment at work, Union Officials said.

“UFCW Canada Local 1006A would like to congratulate the new Members at Courtyard by Marriott and welcome them to our Union Family,” UFCW Local 1006A President Wayne Hanley said. “Hotel Workers ‘know they can count on 1006A to achieve fairness, respect and dignity at work.’”

“This group of Workers ‘showed tremendous determination in working together for a better future,’” Local 1006A Organizing Coordinator Lesley Prince said.

UFCW Canada Local 1006A represents 36,000 Members in a wide range of sectors across Ontario, including the grocery retail, food processing, hospitality, laundry, warehousing, transportation and eye care industries.
