(YPSILANTI, MICHIGAN) – Michigan’s girls and women showed up in blue shirts and red bandanas to smash the world record of people dressed as Rosie the Riveter.

On Saturday (October 14th) - 3,755 girls and women dressed as Rosie at the Eastern Michigan University's Convocation Center.

It's a new world record set by more than 1,500 people.

The youngest was six months old and the oldest was 110.

Michigan held the world record for a year after 2,090 women and girls of all ages gathered at the former Willow Run Bomber Plant near Ypsilanti in 2015.

But in 2016, 2,229 Rosies gathered in California to set a new record.

Rosie the Riveter was a patriotic symbol pictured in a poster of a women wearing a bandanna and flexing her muscles under the slogan: "We can do it!"

The character was inspired by Michigan native Rose Will Monroe, one of thousands of women who worked at the Willow Run plant producing B-24 bombers during World War II.
