(JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK) – Christopher Maggio - a Member of Jamestown Teachers Association, Was Presented With the Joseph H. Mason Community Service Award Wednesday Evening (August 5th) During the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County’s Annual Salute to Labor Dinner – Which Celebrates the Longstanding Partnership Between Organized Labor and the United Way in Southern Tier County.

“This Event is About Recognizing ‘One of Our Own,’” Jamestown AFL-CIO Central Labor Council President and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 106 Business Manager David Wilkinson, Who Also Severs as a United Way of Southern Chautauqua County Board Member, said. “Chris Maggio is an ‘Excellent Example’ of a Member of Organized Labor ‘Giving Back’ Through His Community Service.”

On a Yearly Basis Since 1981, the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County Has Recognized One Union Member or Staff Person Whose Volunteer Service is Exemplary.

“Joseph Mason’s ‘Legacy’ of Community Service ‘Lives on’ in This Award Named for Him,” said United Way of Southern Chautauqua County Executive Director Tory Irgang, Whose Organization Proves Funding to 24 Community Partners That Support 45 Local Programs.  “It’s ‘Very Special’ Because Past Winners Select the Recipient and Each Year it Honors a Different Avenue of Volunteerism and Service.”

Maggio Recently Joined the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County’s Board to Represent the Perspective of Educators, United Way Officials said.

In Addition, Maggio Serves as President of the Jamestown Area Babe Ruth Baseball Organization, Where he is Responsible for the Day-to-Day Operations of its Youth Summer Baseball Program.  Maggio Also Serves as a Board Member of the Babe Ruth World Series Committee, Where he’s Played an Important Role in Fundraising and Planning the Upcoming Tournament.  His Involvement With the World Series Dates Back to the Time He Was a Player.
