(SALAMANCA) - Let-Go United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local One-Represented Parkview Supermarket Workers in Salamanca are Fighting for Their Jobs.

The Workers Will Conduct Leafleting Outside the Southern Tier Grocery Store Today (Wednesday, December 17th) After Failing to be Rehired by the Store’s New Owners - Jake and Mark Sander, Who Recently Acquired the Supermarket. 

Some of the Workers Have Told The Salamanca Press That They Were Blindsided by the New Ownership and Were Under the Impression They Would be Retained After the Grocery Store’s Sale to the Sander Brothers.  

The Former Owner - Olean Wholesale CEO Jim Reid - Told the Newspaper Back in August: “No Matter ‘Who’ Owns the Store, They’re Going to ‘Need’ the ‘Same’ People.”

A Former Parkview Employee - Who Wished to Remain Anonymous – Told The Salamanca Press: “There Were Rumors Flying Around, But for Months We Were Given the Impression We Were Going To Be Okay.  (But) No One said ‘Anything’ to (the Workers).  They Just Hung the Schedule and Walked Away.  If You’re Name’s ‘Not’ On the List – ‘You are Done.’”

The UFCW Has Asked the Sanders to Hire All of the Former Workers Back and Will Ask the Salamanca Community Not to Patronize the Store Until They are. 

"It’s a ‘Shame’ the Sander Family Left So Many Salamanca Families ‘Out in the Cold’ This Christmas," UFCW Local One Executive Assistant Gregory Gorea said.  "Many of These Hard-Working People Have Many Years of Dedicated Service to This Store and They Were Left to Fend for Themselves This Holiday Season."
