(LYSANDER, NEW YORK) - The United Union of Roofers is Protesting Anheuser-Busch's Use of a Non-Union Binghamton Contractor to Repair the Roof at its Brewery Near Baldwinsville, Just Outside Syracuse.

Two Members Of Roofers Local 195 Stood at the Entrance to the Brewery On Route 31 in Lysander for Three and a Half Hours Earlier This Week (Tuesday, November 11th) Handing Out Leaflets Protesting the Hiring of Binghamton Slag Roofing, a Non-Union Contractor Based In Binghamton, Some 73 Miles Away.  The Company is a Sub-Contractor Working On the Brewery's Roof.

Ronald Haney, Business Manager for the Union, said the Beer-Maker Should Use Local Contractors to Keep Jobs in the Community: "They Don't Want to be a ‘Good Neighbor.’"  The Union Has 200 Active Members In A 12-County Area Surrounding Syracuse.

Nick Mills, General Manager of the Brewery, Issued a Statement - Saying Only the Action by the Roofers Union Did Not Impact the Plant's Operations: "This Morning There Was a Small Group Distributing Pamphlets in Protest of Non-Union Labor Managed by a Sub-Contractor That is Completing Work at the Brewery.  Anheuser-Busch Employees Did Not Participate and Were Not Affected.  There Was No Impact On Operations."

While The Company Has No Legal Obligation to Use Local Contractors for the Roofing Work, Haney said the Company Should Do So in Light of a Property Tax Deal it Cut With Local Governments in 2011, Which Cut the Company's Property Taxes by $6 Million Over 15 Years.
