The NYS AFL-CIO Endorses Comptroller DiNapoli & Attorney General Schneiderman During The Federation’s 2014 Committee On Political Education Convention
NYS AFL-CIO Labor Federation Also Announces Endorsements In State Senate & Assembly Elections And For U.S. Congress/Several WNY Incumbent Representatives - Including State Senator Kennedy & Congressman Higgins - Receive Endorsements
(NEW YORK) – Highlighted by the Endorsements of State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, the 2.5 Million-Member New York State AFL-CIO Announced its Endorsements of a Number of Candidates Who Are Running for State and Federal Office During the Labor Federation’s 2014 Committee On Political Education (COPE) Convention That Was Held in New York City On Monday (August 18th).
Those Western New York Candidates Who Received Labor Endorsements During the COPE Convention Included: Incumbents State Senator Catherine Young of the Southern Tier and Tim Kennedy of Buffalo, as well as Democratic Challenger Elaine Altman; and Incumbent Assembly Candidates Sean Ryan and John Ceretto. U.S. Congressman Brian Higgins of Buffalo and Louise Slaughter of Rochester, Both Incumbents, and Democratic Challenger Martha Robertson in the Southern Tier, Also Received COPE Endorsements.
“Our Members ‘Want’ a State That Prioritizes the Creation of ‘Good, Long-Term Jobs’ and ‘Strong Investment’ in the Public Services ‘All’ New Yorkers Rely On. But, ‘That Only Happens’ if We Elect the ‘Right Candidates’ to Office,” New York State AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento said. “Union Members From Throughout the State Will Work Together in a Coordinated Effort to Ensure Our Endorsed Candidates, and in Turn An Agenda That ‘Puts Workers and Their Families First,’ are Successful On Election Day.”
Members Will be Contacted On the Job and at Home Through Member Mailings, Worksite Flyers, Phone Bank Operations and a Labor-to-Neighbor Program - Where Union Members Visit Other Members in the Area to Discuss a Particular Race.

NYS AFL-CIO Announces Its Endorsement Of Comptroller DiNapoli
(NEW YORK) - The New York State AFL-CIO Has Endorsed Tom DiNapoli for Re-Election as New York State Comptroller.
“Comptroller DiNapoli Understands Working Men and Women are the ‘Backbone’ of This State and That Our Economy ‘Rises and Falls’ as They Do,” New York State AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento said at the Labor Federation’s 2014 Committee On Political Education (COPE) Convention That Was Held in New York City.
As Sole Trustee of the State Pension System, Comptroller DiNapoli Has Effectively Led the Fund to Record Levels. While These Results Ensure the Retirement Security of Public Employees, the Comptroller’s Investments in New York Businesses Also Help Create Private Sector Jobs in New York State. In Addition, as the State’s Fiscal Watchdog, the Comptroller Has Helped Shine a Spotlight On Waste in Programs, Including Industrial Development Agencies, Where it’s All Too Common for Corporations to Take Public Money - But Fail to Produce Promised Jobs.
