More than 200 Union Leaders and Delegates were in attendance at the recently-held 2013 Western New York AFL-CIO Labor Federation’s Annual Meeting at United Auto Workers Region 9 Headquarters in Suburban Buffalo.  During the annual marquee Labor Event, WNYALF Leadership outlined a series of ambitious High-Road Economic Initiatives the Western New York Labor Federation will champion this year and those in attendance both welcomed back and listened to National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Chairman Mark Pearce, a former Buffalo Attorney who now heads the most important Labor Board in our Country.

We’re being told the United States Postal Service is in Economic Crisis, but Buffalo-Headquartered National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC)/Branch 3 President Larry Kania Says Americans are missing the point.  Kania says it’s all about the GOP’s Plan to Privatize the Postal Service.  Postal Union Officials say the Recently-Announced Cutback to Five-Day-A-Week Mail Delivery is being caused by a Bizarre Law that’s forcing the Postal Service to pay $5.5 Billion a year into Future Retiree Health Benefits - something no other U.S. Agency is forced to do!

It’s unfortunate, but true - not all Construction Contractors play by the rules.  Some cheat Workers out of wages, skimp on safety or use shoddy materials.  When this happens, the Local Construction Industry, Taxpayers and the Local Economy pay the price.  But now, something’s being done about it.  A Newly-Created Labor-Management Not-for-Profit Group - The Western New York Foundation for Fair Contracting - is helping even the Construction Playing Field and making a difference by investigating and helping to prosecute Alleged Violations across our Region.

I.N. ‘John’ Sierros is a very unique Union Member.  For one, he’s a New York City Construction Worker represented by the Laborers Union and he’s also a Union-Represented Actor.  Sierros has combined his Union Talents and love of the Stage to create Going Typical - a Union Entertainment Concern that’s looking to breathe life into a variety of Union-Themed Theatrical and Entertainment Productions.  Sierros recently flew to Buffalo to sit down with Western New York Labor News… NOW! to talk about what Going Typical hopes to accomplish and how Labor Unions and their Members can get involved.
