(WESTERN NEW YORK) – The 2.5-million member New York State AFL-CIO has announced its endorsement of Democratic U.S. Congressional Candidate Kathy Hochul, who is seeking election to the 26th Congressional District.  A special election for the seat formerly held by Republican Chris Lee is scheduled for May 24th.  The New York State AFL-CIO represents 70,000 Union Members in the 26th Congressional District.

“The New York State AFL-CIO is pleased to announce its endorsement of Kathy Hochul,” New York State AFL-CIO President Denis Hughes said.  “Kathy has reached out to local Unions in her district and has shown a keen awareness and understanding of the issues, needs and concerns of Working Men and Women.  As a result of her efforts, Kathy Hochul has received substantial support within the local Labor Movement in the Twenty-Sixth Congressional District.  As such, the New York State AFL-CIO will work diligently for Kathy’s election next month.”

Said Hochul: “The endorsement of the New York State AFL-CIO demonstrates the large coalition of supporters we are gathering in this race.  The New York State AFL-CIO and I believe that it’s time to help our families get back to work.  We share the goal of creating good jobs throughout the Twenty-Sixth District in a wide range of occupations.  I am deeply grateful for the endorsement and look forward to working with the New York State AFL-CIO in the weeks and years ahead, as we champion Western New York’s Working Families.”
