With the lull between elections, I think Unions need to put a spotlight on class warfare. "Class warfare" is somehow a scary term for many. We often hear politicians say they "don't want to start that." But Labor needs to demonstrate that a class war is already well underway - ever since the election of Ronald Reagan! It's the war of the rich and super-rich against the Working People of America. It is waged by making us believe that government, taxes and the Middle Class (anyone with a Middle Class wage, health insurance and - god-forbid - a pension) are the enemy.
I am glad to see that there is a growing recognition of the huge and increasing disparity of wealth and earnings in America. The trouble is - no one is doing anything about it. Working People need strong advocates -and if not Unions, then who?
